The County Commission is looking at two new measures proposed by Commission Chairman Rory Reid that will help them combat graffiti violators.
The first measure is a revised commercial abatement ordinance that would reduce the threshold for cleanups to 25 square feet (5 feet by 5 feet, for example). Businesses would continue to receive a 15-day grace period to clean up vandalism before facing an abatement proceeding. A second proposal would require retailers offering paint and broad-tipped markers for sale to post educational signs on display cases and to keep spray paint and other graffiti-making implements in locked display cases, and to restrict purchases to adults age 18 and older.
